2015-2016 Academic Year

Der Kreis meets every other week during the academic year. Our schedule rotates between three kinds of meetings: Faculty Presenters and Visiting Professionals The group draws faculty speakers both from within UC Berkeley and from outside the university who present recent or current research as well as professional guests in related fields (e.g. museum curators, archivists, etc.). The group has a particular interest in engaging with young scholars. Graduate Student Presenters Advanced graduate students in a variety of disciplines working on projects related to German history workshop dissertation chapters, articles, and working papers. Recent Publications The group periodically convenes a reading group to discuss recently published books and articles. Der Kreis is open to discussions on all historical methodologies. Thematically, the group’s investments include transnational and global narratives; reevaluations of traditional dates of rupture; scholarship that integrates histories of East and West Germany; and attempts to integrate the history of Germany into the history of contemporary Europe and the European Union.
